The GE ÄKTA avant Preparative Liquid Chromatography System is designed for the purification of proteins and other biomolecules, providing an integrated platform for chromatography method and process development. The system incorporates the valves, detectors, and fraction collection capabilities needed for automated purification, allowing researchers to screen columns, chromatography media, buffers, and operating parameters when developing and optimizing purification methods.
Designed for flexible laboratory workflows, the ÄKTA avant features a modular architecture that can be expanded with additional modules for samples, buffers, outlets, columns, and other optional components. A built-in fraction collector with cooling functionality helps protect purified samples and supports unattended overnight runs, while the integrated instrument display provides convenient monitoring of system status and method progress. BufferPro functionality further streamlines workflows through automated buffer preparation and screening of buffer compositions.
The system is controlled through UNICORN software, providing comprehensive instrument control, experimental planning, run supervision, and data evaluation. Predefined methods and graphical method phases simplify protocol development and editing, while column run-history tracking supports ongoing column management. Integrated Design of Experiments (DoE) functionality provides a structured approach to method optimization, helping laboratories efficiently develop and refine reproducible purification processes.
