The Labconco FreeZone 4.5L -50C Benchtop Freeze Dryer System is designed for lyophilizing light sample loads. The compact design is ideal for labs with limited floor space. The upright stainless steel collector coil holds 4.5 liters of ice before defrosting. Two 1/3 hp HCFC/CFC-free refrigeration systems cool the collector to -50°C, suitable for samples with low eutectic points including acetonitrile.
FreeZone exclusive features protect your vacuum pump from costly damage: A vacuum break valve bleeds air into the system when power to the freeze dryer or vacuum pump is shut off for more than 5 minutes. A moisture sensor prevents refrigeration or vacuum start-up when moisture is detected in the drain line. Vacuum pump is automatically shut down when a leak is present in initial pull down or during run.
The Labconco FreeZone 4.5L -50C Benchtop Freeze Dryer System includes:
- > Edwards RV5 Vacuum Pump
- > 12 Port Manifold
- > Vacuum Tubing and Hardware
- > Mist Filter
- > Operator's Guide
- > Power Cords
- > 180 Day Full Parts & Labor Warranty

- Inspect the display for pixel clarity and brightness issues; replace any dim or defective pixels to ensure optimal visual quality.
- Test each button for responsiveness, resistance, and continuity; replace any buttons that show wear or unresponsiveness.
- Check the acrylic/glass lid for structural integrity, looking for cracks or chips; replace if any damage is found.
- Examine all external gasket seals for elasticity, cracks, or tears; replace compromised seals with OEM-approved parts.
- Remove and replace all manifold ports with new OEM parts, ensuring proper fit and sealing to maintain system integrity.
- Drain and replace the oil, verifying the new oil’s viscosity and particulate levels fall within operational standards.
- Conduct diagnostic checks on all PCB test points, replacing any malfunctioning components to maintain circuit integrity.
- Inspect all internal rubber connections and gaskets for cracks or brittleness; replace compromised parts as needed.
- Disassemble and clean the condenser coils and fan assembly to remove dust; replace worn components to ensure efficiency.
- Confirm the start capacitor for the refrigeration system meets the manufacturer-specified capacitance range; replace if readings deviate.
- Test and calibrate all internal sensors and safety switches, ensuring accurate readings and replacing any faulty components.
- Verify displayed temperatures by cross-referencing with independent calibrated probes; recalibrate the system if discrepancies are detected.
- Check vacuum pressure using an independent gauge, aiming for ~0.40 mbar; address any leaks or inefficiencies affecting vacuum levels.
- Confirm the system achieves and maintains low temperatures (~-50°C or ~-80°C) using certified measurement tools; troubleshoot as necessary.
- Inspect all external surfaces, labels, and interfaces for cosmetic wear; address any scratches, blemishes, or visible signs of damage.
