The Labconco FreeZone 4.5L -105C Benchtop Freeze Dryer System is designed for lyophilizing light to moderate sample loads in laboratories with limited space. This compact unit effectively removes up to 2.5 liters of water over 24 hours and operates at a low temperature of -105°C (-157°F) at 60 Hz, making it suitable for processing low eutectic point substances like acetonitrile, dilute methanol, and ethanol. The system includes an upright stainless steel collector coil capable of holding 4.5 liters of ice before defrosting and features a durable stainless steel lid with a neoprene gasket. Equipped with the Lyo-Works™ OS on a 5-inch full-color capacitive touchscreen, it provides real-time displays of collector temperature and vacuum levels, with optional End-Zone™ end point detection. The dryer's exterior combines brushed stainless steel with a glacier white, powder-coated steel with blue accents. Additional functionalities include data logging capabilities exportable via USB or Ethernet, programmable alerts, and maintenance reminders—all controllable through an intuitive interface that supports multiple languages. Safety features such as a moisture sensor, vacuum control valve, and an automatic restart after short power outages ensure reliable operation.

- Confirm the start capacitor for the refrigeration system meets the manufacturer-specified capacitance range; replace if readings deviate.
- Test and calibrate all internal sensors and safety switches, ensuring accurate readings and replacing any faulty components.
- Verify displayed temperatures by cross-referencing with independent calibrated probes; recalibrate the system if discrepancies are detected.
- Check vacuum pressure using an independent gauge, aiming for ~0.40 mbar; address any leaks or inefficiencies affecting vacuum levels.
- Confirm the system achieves and maintains low temperatures (~-50°C or ~-80°C) using certified measurement tools; troubleshoot as necessary.
- Inspect all external surfaces, labels, and interfaces for cosmetic wear; address any scratches, blemishes, or visible signs of damage.
